At the end of 2019, Gravity Garden was contracted to design and build the trance stage for Cosmic Convergence, a transformational festival in Santiago de Atitlan, Guatemala. The shape was an innovative bamboo bandshell of which its primary structural element was a unique star shaped truss. Guadua angustifolia bamboo combined with locally harvested plant life gave the stage a marriage between a geometric form with organic material. The large white lycra sails allowed the whole stage to function as a screen for immersive projection visuals. This piece was a showcase of not only our unique design approach, but also our ability to manage large scale projects in any environment, even with limited resources. We worked with a small crew and used only scaffolding, ladders, and rope rigging techniques. The structure was erected effectively without the aid of heavy machinery.
